Palm Beach Viaduct Project, Belapur, Navi Mumbai, India

About the Viaduct and the Instrumentation Project Objective

The Palm Beach Viaduct is a railway bridge over Palm Beach Road near Mumbai, India. The bridge engineers needed a system that would measure strain and temperature and enable them to monitor the bridge's structural integrity.

Equipment and Instrumentation

In 2016 Engineers Enterprise successfully bid for a project to design, supply and install a Micron Optics system on a girder section of the bridge. The design was for a complex array of 50 sensors with 10 channels measuring both strain and temperature. Mounting systems and components were designed to be attached to girders, to survive all weather conditions and to resist damage by rodents.

Some of the system was pre-assembled. Then the installation team worked for a week in the monsoon rain to mount the sensors using clips, tubing and sleeves. The team tested the system rigorously and provided the engineers with full training.
